At this stage I was beginning to take my painting forward. I had researched into expanded painting. Which seemed to suit my practice since it combines painting with installation and/or sculpture. Within my practice I do like to work in mixed media and 3D work. It made sense to introduce my paintings this way.

These A4 pieces are my ideas for taking my work into expanded painting. I have isolated the main shapes from previous walking drawings. These pieces were just a planning stage. The next stage is to decide on a surface to work on. For now, there isn't a reason for working on paper and canvas, other than it being a traditional method. I'd like my painting method to have more of a direct link to my research.

In terms of research, these are taken from my walking drawings. Which was taken from Guy Debord's theory of psychogeography.

Some analysis into interdisciplinary research as the work is starting to combine both autoethnography and psychogeography. It's important that I fully comprehend the mode of research I'm beginning to take on.

"Put simply, interdisciplinary means ‘combining subjects together in new ways.' Literally,

interdisciplinary means ‘working between different academic disciplines."

"Much research has shown that the most creative thinkers are those people who can make links between different areas of study, thought, commerce, arts etc. For example Prof Sir Ken Robinson says, 'Creativity depends on interactions between feeling and thinking, and across different disciplinary boundaries and fields of ideas' (Robinson, Ken; 2011; Out of Our Minds; Capstone)"

The claim here sounds as if conducting interdisciplinary research is essential for artistic practice. Through the series of work so far produced, there's been interactions between emotion and colour, autoethnography and psychogeography, contemporary at practice and coronavirus. The process of interdisciplinarity comes naturally to this process. Many questions and problems are resolved through interdisciplinary approach. From world issues within health or politics but this research specifically focuses on answering the questions related to the arts; how it's been affected by the virus and how autoethnography and psychogeography are combined to produce bodies of work to then help the viewer to understand my connection to local areas.

What's important about using this approach is by learning about various disciplines I therefore have more varied arguments and comparisons for discussion. Which arguably, may hold more strength and value.

I have taken this simple diagram from an article which discusses the benefits of interdisciplinary research.

Firstly, by addressing various subject matters cognitive thought is increased. This learning aids the research as it results in greater depth of analysis of artistic methods and theories.

Secondly, it's more realistic. I believe we learn just as much from experience as well as from the systemised education system. The article gives good example, "For example, when learning how to bake or cook something new, one often does research for the best recipes and cooking strategies, reading of recipes and directions, and using math in the actual cooking or baking."

Further on, it helps for problem solving. It encourages more critical thinking towards my own art, artist research and theory.

12.20pm. Black puffer, nike cortez. Quick walk today as I had to get home for a parcel. Was really fun today. Back to Fir Park, was that good morning sun. Very chilly. Very muddy and squelchy. Someone put a tree swing up, which is new. I decided to have a shot. But as I hopped on, lulu wanted to as well. Which didn't end well. Just muddy. Lulu doing lots of zoomies.
