The reasons behind this series goes back to Routes I. Rather than increasing the size the way I'd done for Routes II; I thought the pieces worked best when kept simplified. Again, upped to A2 paper.
I was also thinking about Josef Albers work and colour theory upon reflection. Although I've discovered myself to be a more expressive painter. His theory is why Routes I, II and VI have worked well for this research. Initially, these paintings were depicting the 'emotional' and/or 'mood maps' that Grayson Perry speaks of. Now, having a better understanding through the development of the research. I understand better how these colours work together to represent my emotional response on the walks; relaxed and content.
Finally, I felt the need to pursue this body of work as a way of moving on. I feel finished with this style as I'm now getting stuck into establishing and improving my more expressive work. To round this off nicely it felt best to do this through a completed series of artwork.
